How To Report a Post/Topic
Registered or unregistered users of the website may report any content within it. This can be done in two ways. 1) Click the 'Report Post' icon contained within each post. This then sends a message to all moderators of the website so the necessary action can be taken. 2) Copy the URL of the offending topic and paste it into an email and send it to info@contractorforum.co.uk. You'll need to provide a post number which can be located in the upper right of every post. Reporting a post either way will require a reason for reporting the post.
Note that moderators or the owner of the website cannot always respond directly to the person reporting the post, though the issue will always be looked into.
FORUM RULES
1) Advertising
Advertising is NOT allowed in the forum. The forum is only to be used by professional contractors and tradesmen alike. The forum cannot be used by those who provide products and/or services to the contractors as it often renders their views and advice biased towards their sales. The forum is setup to provide good free advice to those who seek it and that's all. In the future when the website grows we will ask the regular members what companies they would like to see involved in the website and will consider taking on sponsors to help with the running costs. Though we're not at that stage quite yet. If you are interested in advertising / sponsoring the forum then please contact us.
Google Adwords is used throughout the website and can be used as an avenue to display company advertisements in various locations on ContractorForum.co.uk and its related websites. For more information about Google Adwords please click here.
Members are not allowed to advertise their eBay stores, holiday homes, or anything else they generate revenue out of. There is a 'For Sale and Wanted' section within the forum which can be used to buy and sell goods at no cost to the members. Though they must be second hand, and the seller must list the price they're looking for, so we don't want 'offers please' type posts.
Professional tradesmen are welcome to advertise their business within the website ongoing. This can be done using signature links, avatars, creating topics with a list of their services, and by creating a profile within the website containing all business contact details.
2) Signatures
Professional tradesmen and contractors are welcome to use their signature by adding a link to their website and some information regarding their business. Signatures must be now more than a couple of lines of text, unless you have special privileges granted by the staff in which case you'll be told what is allowed. Certain usergroups will have their own restrictions.
3) Abuse and Offensive Content
Most of the website is visible to all those who find it, whether registered or unregistered. For this reason we cannot allow swearing, abusive comments or anything illegal such as racist remarks. Those who offend may be warned only once, but not in every case. There may be a couple of area's on the website that allow swearing and it will be noted within the description of that area as you find it. Such area's are protected from unregistered users therefore only access the area's as a member, if you're willing to read a little swearing from those letting of steam, or have a joke to tell.
4) Complaints About Tradesmen
ContractorForum.co.uk is no way affiliated with the tradesmen, nor is a governing body for any trade. Complaints will need to be send direct to the tradesmen, or to trading standards, or via a solicitor. We cannot side with any view with any issue, nor act on any view.
5) Views of Members
Clearly not every reader will agree with every post. A forum by definition means 'open discussion' and a website such as ContractorForum.co.uk needs to have many views expressed in an amicable way to ensure the website has activity and therefore serves a purpose. Reported posts with reasons such as 'that's incorrect' would not be acted upon. Instead we urge those who have a view to express it within the topic.
On the same note, we cannot ensure all the comments made are true and accurate. They're uncorroborated views and therefore should never be taken as fact but just the opinion of the person making the contribution. Complaints regarding views will be ignored and cannot be acted upon. As above, the best thing to do, is to express your own opinion.
No information is guaranteed to be accurate therefore actions carried out are at your own risk. ContractorForum.co.uk cannot be liable for damages caused through using information found on this website. All information is a guide, and ContractorForum.co.uk always recommend those seeking advice to use qualified professionals.
6) Trolling and Trolls (Definition)
Trolls are not welcome and will be banned immediately after being found or reported. Trolls make the website hard to moderate and are generally only using the website to annoy the volunteers that run it, or the members on it. Trolls are not liked on any website, especially a free one. Keep this in mind when, for example, you get the urge to search for a certain members posts and respond to each one to aggravate a response. Trolls often take the topics off-topic which renders the rest of the advice within the topic useless.
6.1) Don't Feed The Trolls
'Feeding the Trolls' is a term used to label those who respond to the trolls actions. So if a troll creates a post and members 'take the bait' by replying, they cause more moderation time, and often just as much as the troll did in the first place. If you see a troll, report their actions, ignore their comments, and don't reply to the thread until action has been taken.
