Hello all
I am Grim Smith, general builder operating on a much smaller scale these days (Like a one man band) due to injuries and the years piling on! Based in Plymouth.

Re: Hello all
Hey Grim, welcome aboard the Contractor Forum. Where did you hear about us mate?
I guess you've been in the trade some time then if the 'years are piling on' now?

Re: Hello all
Hello Dan, I don't know exactly who invited me, I just got an invite from the webmaster, he found me since I'm already on the plastering forum. Yes, I've been around since 1982 when I pitched in with my dad, though I had been in the construction trades since 1972 before that.
I do mostly smaller 'jobbing' stuff now due to the fact I smashed my knee earlier this year and things like a full roof take their toll more! But of course, things change and I get better every day.

Re: Hello all
The webmaster would be me mate. The plastering forums is ours too. Sort of made this one covering many trades to help the guys (and gals) network better on the bigger jobs.
1982 hey, my birth year! Still a bit left in me then.
I had a cousin who was a roofer shatter his knee, tib' and fib' around xmas time on a sledge! He's just had the pins out about 3 weeks ago, and now he's got to learn to walk on it again. Needless to say, he's not going back to roofing.
It's a real shame when a trader looses the ability to carry on with his trade. So hats of to you for keeping your foot in the door mate.

Re: Hello all
Hi Grim
Welcome, have visited the plastering forums a few time, seems nice friendly place
I know what you mean about years piling on, am a plumber and starting to get the aches and pains I was warned about, thankfully my knees still seem ok at the moment, don’t like to speak to soon
Hope your knee kept improving with time, trouble is as we get older ,takes longer to heal

Re: Hello all
I have a clicky knee, and my old man has gout, he rates I'm gonna get it. I hope I don't as he doesn't half moan about it and he's not the type of guy that moans much.
I'm sure you'd love just a clicky knee though Grim. Not saying we're on the same boat like!
Oh, the days of crawling around cold stone floors grouting with epoxy have gladly gone!
