Re: part p
Bit confused by your post really mate.
Part P is a part of the building regs (Electrical Safety in Dwellings). In order to comply with this you must be a memeber of a competant persons scheme to carry out and self certify any notifiable work in a dwelling. If not then you must involve your LABC before you start any work and they will come out at various stages of the job, inspect and issue a compliance certificate at the end.

Re: part p
to a jib approved electrician from another who has worked in the game 35 years and always done things the right way. I have seen work which makes you cry or laugh depending on why you are looking at it, you can only come to the conclusions that the certification and competant persons scheme are systems put in place to stop the volume of work which was done by people qualified and not qualified "on the side" after all if the competant persons scheme was to be really effective it would cover every individual tradesman, how come firms can do many jobs by many "electricians" but only have to show compliance to the same number of jobs as an individual working on their own, the rest can remain hidden covered by test results not worth the paper they are written on.
Building inspectors only want the certificate so they can place blame away from themselves and many so called tradesmen falsify the paperwork to cover thier asses.

Re: part p
The JIB are not really anything to do with PART P.
Part P as Lenny quite rightly stated is the building regs for electrical installations in dwellings / houses.
The JIB are foremost a union defending sparks rights and negotiating pay etc. Even if you have a JIB card it doesn't mean you can self certify domestic electrical work under Part P.
You still have to join a PART P Scheme such as...
NICEIC Domestic Installer
Elecsa
Napit
BSI
