Self cleaning glass dose have advantages but it really should be re-named because it don't clean its self merely appears to stay clean longer and prevents beading of water there for leaving less time for dirt to stick to it.

It also has major down sides. It scratches easily. as do most new glazed units due to the new UV protection they all have to have. It also never really looks clean it that makes sense? from the moment its put in it looks misty in comparison to normal glass.

The best thing to do is have it cleaned once every two months with a pure water cleaning system avoiding using soap or any chemicals on it at all.

Agree totally with Premier there....most of our new house is self-cleaning glass and it certainly DOES need some maintenance and it also DOES scratch.

I have not used self cleaning glass but I used glass with a coating called Ritec I think it is still available, the only snag with it is it's so slippery it's difficult to pick up.

My Mrs was telling me about this alittle while ago. I think Pilkingtons Glass make some form of self cleaning glass. Supposedly the rain cleans it or something to that effect! LOL

Is this Pilkingtons self-cleaning glass? My old man uses it quite often.

Yes it was a sod if you could'nt get your fingers under the glass you can't get it of the floor,You also had to supply the customer with a special cleaner that they apply once a year
