Stop Unwanted Calls from Salesmen

Register your personal and business phone numbers with www.MPSOnline.org.uk/tps/ for free and stop unwanted cold callers from hassling you all day long. If they call you then, tell them you're registered with the TPS and they should stop, if they don't then report them to TPS and they face a fine.

BT do a version too it might even be linked to this but they give you free caller display with it

BT Customer Street, which is a BT Company now, is one of the offending firms that cold call tradesmen. They crawl the internet for free directories listing tradesmen details (such as yell.com, etc) and then make databases for their salesmen to call you during working hours, pretend they have business available for you, and then try and get you in a contract for £30 with a HUGE setup fee.

I'd avoid anything BT does for tradesmen, and I'd avoid using their 'call-stopping-service' too, as I bet you £50 it's somehting dodgy to stop you getting your number actaully listed on the TPS database which WILL stop cold calls.

TPS is a 'thing' that's government funded and is a governing body in telecommunications in some sense, or so I understand.

I'd only use TPS if you want to stop cold callers bugging you and trying to rip you off.

And a general rule of thumb; if they're calling you, you can probably get it cheaper if you try calling a few different firms yourself. That rule has very few exceptions.

I can vouch for this service by the TPS...it works great..if you do happen to get a cold call, simply mention your are registerd with the TPS and they will apologise and hang up and most even say they will remove you from our list..

Be sure to tell those still calling you that you're with the TPS, they soon hang up. And make sure you report them if they call back again. You'll need to get their REAL company name, many say they're from a certain company when actually they're not. Ask them to post a quote out and you'll have all their details!

We're registered with TPS and reported a well known telepest that sells internet advertising. We received a rather aggressive letter telling us that they have no record of telephoning us and to with draw the complaint or they'll seek compensation for slander.
Think they were counting on us not being able to back our complaint up, but our telephone system keeps a log of every telephone call made and received. We printed of a log of the 48!! times they called us and sent it to them and also the TPS along with the letter.

It just shows the length these companies will go to.
