I read of traders doing it and it works, but others doing it and it doesn't, so I think it's sort of area specific. Well worth a go though as you don't know until you've tried I guess.

I had an add in my local fee thought the door paper and got quite alot of calls but of those I got none turned in to work. I put this down to them all being after the cheapest price they could get.

I think if some one is after a good job for a fair price they will look for a recommendation rather than risk it in the paper.

    But thats just a thought.

When I first kicked off, the local paper was my best source of new customers. I had a small client base to start (friends and family) but I got a lot of work from the paper from small "add a socket" jobs to a large metal chimney fabrication factory refurb. I still do all their work now too.
